Underground seasonal thermal energy storage for district heating networks.
Seasonal thermal energy storage
USES4HEAT demonstrates large-scale underground seasonal thermal energy storage integrated with district heating. Storing renewable and waste heat helps bridge the gap between when energy is available and when it is needed.
Two demonstration sites in Italy and Norway are supported by four replication cases, including Kozani, Greece. The project combines storage with technologies such as heat pumps, solar thermal systems, and intelligent energy management.
